Steam Game Reviews

I’ve fought with the idea of making this or a new tumblr/blog/site into a “The Steam Gamer” review stream. I have over 200 games on Steam, and as I do feel some nostalgia for my game reviewer days, I’ve considered writing mini-reviews of each game as I knock them out. Maybe one day I can compile a collection of reviewing every game on Steam.

One can dream.

Sometime when I feel more up to it, I’ll start experimenting with the format of these reviews here. ‘Til then, here’s a backlog of games I’ve beaten on Steam so far…

Assassin’s Creed (Completed on 360)
Audiosurf (Not “Beatable”)
Braid (All Pieces + Stars)
Counterstrike (Not “Beatable”)
Counterstrike: Condition Zero
Crayon Physics Deluxe
Crysis
Defense Grid
Eets
Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode 1
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Osmos (All Achievements)
Overlord (Completed on 360)
Plants vs. Zombies (All Achievements)
Team Fortress 2 (Not “Beatable”, 285+ Achievements)
The Path
Trine
Zeno Clash

I have a long, long way to go. Here’s the next few targets on my list, some of which I’m partway through…

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Beyond Good and Evil
Crysis Warhead
Deus Ex
Eufloria
Far Cry
Freedom Force
The Longest Journey
Lost Planet
Mass Effect
Max Payne
Mini Ninjas
Mr. Robot
Overlord II
Psychonauts
Red Faction
STALKER
Star Wars: KOTOR
Torchlight
Universe at War
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Warhammer 40k

Probably one of the biggest questions I’d put forth is how long do you have to play a game like HL2: Deathmatch to consider it “beaten”? Do you just need to test out all the content? Is there a certain number of hours you should play? Should you get a certain amount of achievements? A problem with no really good answer I’m afraid. I would challenge content is the most important factor in most game reviews, especially multiplayer ones, but hardly the only one.

Look forward to some reviews in the near future.
